In the early hours of March 17, six members of animal rights group
Disobedient Animals (The Rescue Service Action 7) entered a rabbit farm
by Järlåsa near Uppsala. 21 Rabbits were rescued from a life
confined to cramped cages and have instead been brought to new loving
homes. The action was entirely open and the group left a letter for
the owner of the farm.
- At this time, no specific rules exist regarding how poorly rabbits may
be treated. They oftentimes live in narrow, bare cages that allow them
no kind of stimulation. Many of them are stricken with illnesses such as
meningitis, various lung diseases and unclipped nails which grow into
their paws. We went through with this action in order to save a few of
the rabbits and also to protest their use for profit, says-Ylva Jansson
from Stockholm.
